Plot summary
Krag Ulma, a student of Peric, has designed a new submarine. The submarine is built, and at its launch Trigo christens it Perici. Krag and Peric set out in the submarine to explore the unknown depths of the ocean. When they reach depths no one has ever visited before, they are swallowed by an enormous sea monster. Thanks to their heat shield, they manage to kill the creature. They collect many samples from the depths of the seas.
When Peric examines one of these specimens, he loses consciousness. When Krag enters the laboratory, he finds Peric and takes him to the infirmary. When he returns to the lab, he sees a bubbling green creature, which almost causes him to lose consciousness as well. He warns the crew and seals off the laboratory.
Peric regains consciousness, and they realize that the green creature emits a sleeping gas. The green being seeps through the laboratory door, and they evacuate the cabins. One sailor remains behind, but Krag rescues him. They warn Trigo, who sends a rescue ship.
The green creature crawls through the ventilation shaft, and they are in danger of losing consciousness. But they reach the surface, and the rescue ship, under the command of Janno, arrives. The rescuers wear protective clothing and save the sailors of the Perici. As they sail away, they see the green creature climbing on top of the Perici, but with a torpedo they blow up the Perici, which sinks to the bottom of the sea.
