Plot summary

Peric and Brinka are waiting at the spaceport for their friend Broz and his daughter Corin. Broz and his daughter are returning from a space journey. They have a small machine that can read thoughts. Broz received it from the people of Murimo, a highly intelligent people who knew no war. Broz tells the story of the Murimos. They lived in a paradise, and robots did the work. One day, the planet Orismo came close to Murimo. The people of Orismo attacked the planet and enslaved the Murimos.

Broz explains that they are preparing a rebellion, but they need a leader. Broz asks if Brinka wants to take on that role. Trigo gives his permission, and Brinka, Broz, and his daughter travel in a spaceship to Murimo. Brinka pretends to be a merchant and in this way infiltrates the resistance. An independent group of rebels kills the highest-ranking Orismo, which makes the others even more alert. The resistance takes Brinka to an underwater city where the Murimos are preparing the uprising. It is the only city not controlled by the Orismos. Brinka sees that they have all the means to build weapons there. He asks Peric via communicator to send a design for a large weapon. Peric transmits a model via the particle transmitter. The Murimos begin constructing the model at full scale.

At the market, Broz and his daughter sell magic lamps with Brinka. The new highest-ranking Orismo is intrigued and invites them to his palace. There, Brinka is captured, as they know he is a spy. The highest-ranking Orismo finds the story of the lamps ridiculous: he says they will be executed at sunrise on the main square. He may make a wish with the lamp that it won’t happen. Meanwhile, the Murimos are nearly finished building their weapon. That evening, Brinka is about to be executed. At that moment, the vehicle the Murimos built rises from the sea. The Orismos are so frightened that they don’t even fight. They flee with their ships back to their own planet.
